The Wild South Board of Directors chooses the recipient of the Wild South Award of Distinction recognizing a significant contribution to Wild South’s mission to protect and restore native ecosystems in the Southeast

John Wilson-for his dedication and commitment to the effort to protect 25,500 acres of the Pisgah National Forest as the Grandfather National Scenic Area.

Outstanding Educator in Conservation:
John Huie–for his years of service to environmental education through Outward Bound, the Warren Wilson College Environmental Leadership Center, and Muddy Sneakers.

Sherman Stambaugh–for his decades of work on the hiking trails of Western North Carolina as a 37-year member of the Carolina Mountain Club.
