Canyon Hike in the Bankhead National Forest
July 27, 2019 @ 9:00 am

Join Wild South for a Laid-Back Canyon Hike in the Bankhead National Forest!
Saturday, July 27th
Where to Meet: The Wild South Office (552 Lawrence St., Moulton, AL) at 9:00 AM.
Hike Details: The focus of this hike will be on exploring the natural wonders of the forest, being in or near the water, and enjoying the amazing sandstone canyon topography of the Bankhead National Forest. When we reach our destination, we will drop our packs and stay awhile. This will be a good opportunity for sketching, journaling, basking in the forest’s beauty, or hanging a hammock and taking a nap!
Level of Difficulty: Expect this hike to be relatively easy. The exact hike location will be determined based on water levels, group size, weather, etc.
What to Bring: A backpack with lunch, snacks, and plenty of drinking water. Be prepared for heat and ticks. You may also consider bringing a hammock, camp seat or pad, camera, sketch pad, paints, book, journal, pen, field guides, etc.
Tick Protection: For protection against ticks, we recommend Permanone or Sawyers. These are effective permethrin products to be sprayed on clothing only (NOT on skin), and must be left to dry for 4 hours prior to wearing. These products don’t have a strong odor (like other sprays), allowing you to enjoy all the good smells of the forest.
Cost: Wild South hikes are always free of charge, but your donation will be gratefully received! We offer these hikes in the Bankhead National Forest the first and last Saturday of each month, as part of our Alabama Outreach & Education Program.
RSVP Required: Contact janice@wildsouth.org or (256) 974-6166. Please include your phone number when signing up.
