February 1 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

Wild South hikers on January 25th hike in Bankhead National Forest

Join Wild South staff in an exploration of the Kinlock Historic District.

Sign up at janice@wildsouth.org or 256-974-6166.  Group size is strictly limited and advance sign-up is required.

Leader:  Janice Barrett

Distance:  Approx. ~2 miles

Level of challenge:  Moderate

Children welcome!

Learn about the cultural and natural history of the Bankhead National Forest and Sipsey Wilderness in this exploration of the Kinlock Historic District.

Our hike will begin on the northwestern section of the Bankhead National Forest with a two-thirds mile walk to Kinlock Shelter.  The route is mostly uphill (gradual) then descends into a canyon.  The second half of the exploration will be on Hubbard Creek at Kinlock Falls.  This outing will include an optional light stewardship project, picking up trash at Kinlock Falls.

After signing up, meet at the Wild South office in Moulton at 9:30 a.m.  See map below.  If meeting the group at Kinlock makes more sense in terms of travel and time, please let us know.

Bring a small backpack with lunch, snacks, water.

Dress in clothing appropriate for the weather and comfortable for winter hiking.  Footwear must be sturdy with reliable traction (no smooth soles).

Terrain will be rocky, rooty and probably wet.

No dogs and no smoking, please.

Wild South hikes are part of our Alabama Outreach and Education Program and are offered free of charge.  Donations on the day of the hike or online are welcome and entirely support the program.  To donate online, please enter “ALOE” into the donation designation box.  Thank you!
