Guided Hike in the Sipsey Wilderness
June 1, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Celebrate National Trails Day by joining us for a guided hike to Borden Creek in the Sipsey Wilderness!
Saturday, June 1st
**Registration is full! Email janice@wildsouth.org to be added to the waiting list!**
Where to Meet: The Wild South Office (552 Lawrence St., Moulton, AL) at 9:30 AM.
Hike Details: Our hike will begin at the Borden Creek Trailhead on Bunyan Hill Road and will end at the Sipsey Recreation Area. The trail follows Borden Creek for the first 2.5 miles, then follows Sipsey Fork for the last 0.5 mile.
Level of Difficulty: This hike will be approximately 3 miles, and is rated as moderately challenging with little elevation change. All ages are welcome. This rough trail is well-maintained but rocky and rooty underfoot. Be prepared for minor stream crossings. The trail passes through a 30-foot long, narrow rock tunnel (aka “the squeeze”).
What to Bring: A backpack with lunch, snacks, and plenty of drinking water. Wear sturdy footwear with good traction. Dress for the weather.
Tick Protection: For protection against ticks, we recommend Permanone or Sawyers. These are effective permethrin products to be sprayed on clothing only (NOT on skin), and must be left to dry for 4 hours prior to wearing. These products don’t have a strong odor (like other sprays), allowing you to enjoy all the good smells of the forest.
Cost: Wild South hikes are always free of charge, but your donation in the bucket on the picnic table will be gratefully received! We offer these hikes in the Bankhead National Forest the first and last Saturday of each month, as part of our Alabama Outreach & Education Program.
RSVP Required: Contact janice@wildsouth.org or (256) 974-6166. Please include your phone number when signing up. (If you prefer, you may meet the group at the trailhead – either the Sipsey Recreation Area, or Borden Creek Trailhead on Bunyan Hill Rd. Please indicate where you plan to meet the group when signing up!)
