Helping Hands Workday on Kinlock Road
October 19, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

HELPING HANDS VOLUNTEER WORKDAY!
Saturday, October 19
Where to Meet: The Wild South Office (552 Lawrence St., Moulton, AL) at 8:30 AM.
Workday Details: The project will begin on Cranal Road (Lawrence County Road 6, Winston County Road 61) on the southern boundary of the Sipsey Wilderness. The group will be divided into teams to pick up roadside trash. Phase 2 of the project will take place on Kinlock Road on the western boundary of the Sipsey Wilderness at Kinlock Falls.
What to Expect: Total hiking distance will be about 2 miles.
What to Bring: A backpack with work gloves, lunch, snacks, and plenty of drinking water. All tools will be provided but if you have loppers and a hardhat you’d like to bring, please do! We recommend bringing an Epi-Pen if needed for insect sting allergies.
What to Wear: Wear comfortable clothing that’s both appropriate for the weather, as well as protective against sharp tools and briars. We recommend long pants, and sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
Tick Protection: For protection against ticks, we recommend Permanone or Sawyers. These are effective permethrin products to be sprayed on clothing only (NOT on skin), and must be left to dry for 4 hours prior to wearing. These products don’t have a strong odor (like other sprays), allowing you to enjoy all the good smells of the forest. **NOTE: ticks are thriving and numerous this time of year. It’s very important to protect yourself against the diseases they carry!
Important: Dogs and smoking are not allowed on workday trips.
RSVP Required: Contact kim@wildsouth.org If meeting at the trailhead works best for you, let us know when signing up.
(Wild South’s Helping Hands Volunteer Program is funded by the generous donations of individuals like you, and by a matching grant from The National Forest Foundation.)
