All ages welcome
Discover the splendor of our forest in wintertime. Our hike will take us along streams and to waterfalls, to ancient rock shelters and high bluff walls, through a forest green with Eastern hemlocks, American hollies, pines, mosses and ferns, across a landscape rich in Native American and pioneer history.
Be prepared for the weather, slick rocks and wet ground; some brief climbing of slopes; rough, rocky forest terrain and narrow, shallow stream crossings.
Bring a daypack with lunch, snacks, drinking water and a sense of adventure. Trekking poles or a hiking stick are helpful at stream crossings and for balance.
No dogs and no smoking on this hike, please.
Wild South hikes are free of charge and are part of our Alabama Outreach and Education Program. Donations to the program are welcome.
