Explore your National Forest with Wild South
Saturday, March 7
Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Wild South office (see map below)
Sign up at janice@wildsouth.org or 256-974-6166. Advance sign-up is required in order to limit group size.
Leader: Janice Barrett
Distance: 4 – 5 miles roundtrip
Level of Difficulty: Moderately challenging
All ages welcome. Please bring children!
The destination of our hike will be decided closer to March 7 depending on weather, water levels, what’s blooming, etc. It’s not too early to sign up! Our hikes fill very quickly even before a destination is announced.
Expect rough terrain underfoot – roots, rocks, possibly little or no trail, creek crossings (narrow and shallow), wetness and mud – and a moderate amount of uphill walking.
Be prepared with footwear that can get wet, keep you from slipping on slick rocks and protect your feet. Wool socks are highly recommended. A hiking stick or trekking poles are helpful. Watch the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
Bring a daypack with lunch, snacks and water.
No dogs and no smoking, please.
Wild South hikes are free so more people can get outside! Any donations to our Alabama Outreach and Education Fund will be gratefully accepted on the day of the hike or online (please enter “ALOE” in the donation Designation Code box). Thank you!
