Geologist fills hikers’ heads with rocks

geo hikers

Last Saturday, February 9, Dr. Jim Lacefield filled our heads with rocks as he taught the geology of the Bankhead National Forest (AL) in the second of Wild South’s Bankhead Canyon Celebration Hikes.  We are grateful to Dr. Lacefield for enthusiastically sharing his knowledge of the formation of our fantastic canyons, and we are grateful to everyone who joined us for the day!  Our next Canyon Celebration Hike will be May 4.  The theme will be aquatic biology and will be taught by the Nature Conservancy’s Paul Freeman.  Registration for this event will begin in April, so if you are not already on our e-mail list, contact us!

Here are some photos of the geology hike:

Sure do wish I could have made that hike. The Bankhead’s canyons are simply amazing!
