Grant Posey
A good man passed from this earth early Sunday morning, October 8. Our good friend Grant Posey was a kind and gentle soul, an animal lover, a poet, a fire-in-the heart environmental and community activist, and a dedicated Wild South volunteer and donor.
Born and raised near Haleyville, Alabama and a long-time resident of Lawrence County, Grant became part of the Wild South family about 15 years ago. He assisted in our Canyon Survey Program (Bankhead National Forest) by tromping many miles up and down the sides of canyons with Mark Kolinski; shared his passion for our wildest places by introducing hikers to the wonders of the Bankhead National Forest and Sipsey Wilderness through volunteering as a hike leader; strapped on his tool belt and helped build the new kiosks at Sipsey Wilderness trailheads; worked as a Helping Hands volunteer and maintained hiking trails, picked up trash and dumpsites and pulled privet. Most who knew Grant also knew his dog Buttercup and his beloved wife, Jackie, who we hold in our thoughts, our hearts and our prayers.
Grant offered helping hands, a warm heart and a generous spirit. He is deeply missed.
