Our last trail maintenance day on Thompson Creek trail (#206) in the Sipsey Wilderness had us hiding out from the storm!  This coming Friday, August 4, we will go back and finish up.  A few hands are needed!

After departing from the Wild South office, we will begin hiking in from the Thompson Creek trailhead. Trail maintenance will involve using loppers, hand pruners and saws to trim back encroaching vegetation and clear blockages created by downed trees.  Kneeling, stooping, bending over and hiking while carrying all hand tools can be expected.

Total hiking distance will be around 5 miles, round trip.

All tools and safety gear will be provided but if you have a hard hat, loppers or hand pruners, please bring them.

Bring a day pack with

  • lunch, snacks and plenty of drinking water
  • work gloves
  • Epi-Pen if needed

Wear clothing comfortable for summer hiking but protective against sharp tools and briars.  Long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots are recommended.

Protect yourself against ticks.  We recommend the use of permethrin products, such as Permanone or Sawyers, the kind you spray on your clothes and allow to dry completely before you put them on.  Ticks are thriving and numerous right now and protecting against diseases they carry is very important.

Dogs are not allowed on work projects.
