Hike to Key Mill Branch

Leader:  Tim Davis

Distance:  4.5 – 5 mile loop

Level of Challenge:  Moderately challenging.  For experienced hikers only

For ages 10 and over

Let’s do it again!  Last month’s hike to Key Mill Branch was full to over-flowing with a wait list.  Here’s your chance if you missed it.  Slideshow from January hike is below.

Join Wild South volunteer wilderness ranger and hike leader Tim Davis for this exploration of beautiful Key Mill Branch in the northeastern section of the Bankhead National Forest.  Most of the hike will be off-trail on rugged terrain and is open only to experienced hikers 10 years of age and over.

Group size is limited and advance sign-up is required.

Be prepared for the weather by watching the forecast and dressing in layers for warmth.  Bring rain gear if there is a chance of rain.  Shoes must be sturdy (boots or sneakers) with good tread for wet rocks, slippery creekbanks and uneven terrain.  There will be a narrow, shallow creek crossing or two.

Bring a backpack with lunch, snacks, drinking water.

After signing up, meet Tim and the group at the Warrior Mountains Trading Company (map link above) at 11312 Alabama Highway 33, Moulton, AL at the intersection with Highway 36.  Park on the south end of the building and come into the store.  Head for the Wild South picnic table toward the back.

Wild South hikes on our public lands are free of charge, but your donation in the bucket on the picnic table will help keep our hikes program running strong!
