January 3, 1975. (This is about a hike in Sipsey Wilderness)
On January 3, 1975, the Eastern Wilderness Act was signed by Congress and the Sipsey Wilderness was born!
On January 3, 2015, we will celebrate that momentous occasion by taking a hike in the Sipsey Wilderness.
Let’s get out there and breathe some wild winter air.
Click HERE to sign up. Group size is strictly limited to 10 and advance sign-up is required.
The hike will be 4 miles or less roundtrip and will be open to all ages of hikers. It will be on a trail and the scenery will be spectacular.
Be prepared for hiking on a rough trail with little elevation change (some up and down but not much), and for whatever the weather is offering that day.
Bring a backpack with lunch, snacks, drinking water.
If you have a favorite poem or short prose about wilderness, or wild anything, bring it to share.
After signing up, meet at the Warrior Mountains Trading Company at 9:30 a.m. Park on the south end of the building and come into the store. We will gather at the Wild South picnic table at 9:30.
I think I am interested, but I have no idea where the meeting place is located. And there is no mention of the length of time the hike may last. Some people “hike” to get to their destination as fast as possible. I “hike” to view the scenery. From what I read above, I believe this hike is to view scenery and not rush to an end point. Am I correct? Is the hike a round trip or does one retrace that path back to the beginning?
a Very Merry to you and your mom and dad……..tg
