Save the Land and Water Conservation Fund Today!

Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Cranes

Cranes at the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge in Alabama, a place protected in part by funding from the LWCF

This is a critical moment in the future of America’s wild places. The Land and Water Conservation Fund, one of the most successful conservation programs in history, has been cut and we need Congress to reinstate it before it’s too late. Please send an email (see below) or call to your Senator and Representative today (take action below)!

  • For 50 years, LWCF has provided critical funding for land and water conservation projects, outdoor recreation access, and the continued preservation of our nation’s historic, cultural and iconic landmarks. (Look up how LWCF has impacted your State here!)
  • LWCF is paid for with non-taxpayer dollars. Congress made a commitment to the American public that a small portion of revenues from offshore oil and gas drilling would go to outdoor recreation and conservation, as an offset for the depletion of resources that belong to us all.
  • This is a critical time for conservation as LWCF’s authorizing legislation is now expired, threatening conservation and recreation projects that are critical to American communities and our nation’s outdoor recreation economy.
  • We urge Members of Congress to speak up in support of LWCF reauthorization, as well as robust funding for the program.

I volunteer with Wild South, spending several weekends talking to visitors of the Bankhead Sipsey Wilderness area. The increase in visitors is telling. We the People value wild resources. It is important to all of us, we all benefit and a large number of people actively seek out these wild places.
