Hike #1:  Sougahoagdee Falls

Meet-up time:  9:30

Leader:  Grant Posey

Rating:  Moderately challenging

Distance:  Approx. 4.5 miles roundtrip

Sougahoagdee Falls

Ages 10 and up

Sougahoagdee Falls is a year-round waterfall located on a tributary of Brushy Creek on the southeastern section of the Bankhead National Forest.  The route to the falls follows Brushy Creek upstream from the new bridge on Hickory Grove Road.  This time of the year, with waterfalls coming off the tall sandstone bluffs all along the way and the early spring wildflowers beginning to bloom, this is a spectacular hike.

The trail is undesignated and unmaintained, crossing narrow streams, climbing up hillsides and briefly steep creekbanks.  Footing is rocky and rooty and there will be deadfall to climb over and under.

Hike #2: Wildflower hike to Indian Tomb Hollow and High House Hill

Meet-up time:  9:30

Indian Tomb Hollow

Leader:  Julia Bright

Rating:  Moderate

Distance:  Approx. 3 miles roundtrip

All ages are welcome

Springtime would not be adequately celebrated with0ut visits to Indian Tomb Hollow, which is one of the premier Spring wildflower sites in the Bankhead National Forest.  Julia Bright will lead hikers in from the Alexander Motorway in the northeastern section of Bankhead, stopping first at the limestone glade to explore the glade plants that grow there.  Hikers will proceed up the trail for about a mile to the botanical area on Gillespie Creek, stopping along the way to visit the Indian marker tree and Indian Tomb Hollow Cemetery.

On the way back, hikers will cross Gillespie Creek and fairly steep climb up to the bluff line on High House Hill to see stunning sandstone formations.  There is no trail on this part of the hike through the forest.

Be prepared for at least two creek crossings and some off-trail hiking uphill through the forest.

Am I correct in guessing the trailhead is here: http://goo.gl/maps/0Csgc ? or just before the bridge on that map?
