This Sipsey Wilderness hike begins at the Sipsey Recreation Area on Cranal Road and proceeds upstream on Turkeyfoot Creek.  The narrow trail is not maintained and is fairly rough –  rocky, rooty, uneven –  underfoot.  There is very little elevation change.   The hike includes Turkeyfoot Falls and Mize Mill Falls, mature cove hardwood and Eastern hemlock forest, rock shelters and a very old automobile that tumbled over the bluff sometime around 1942.

Expect 2 shallow creek crossings, brief scrambles up/down the creekbank.  There is a $3 per car fee in the parking lot.

Bring a backpack with lunch, snacks, water and $3 for the day-use fee.

Wear sturdy shoes with good tread for slippery rocks and steep trail.

After signing up, meet at the Warrior Mountains Trading Company (map link above) at 11312 AL Hwy. 33, Moulton, AL at 9:30 a.m.  Park on the south end of the building and come into the store.  At 9:30 we will gather at the Wild South picnic table where there will be sign-in sheets and the donation bucket.

Wild South hikes are free of charge but your donation will be gratefully received and put to work right here in Bankhead National Forest!
