Wild Wednesdays are coming!
CLICK HERE for the schedule of Wild Wednesday hikes in Bankhead National Forest!
Every Wednesday in July and the first Wednesday in August, Wild Wednesday hikers will meet at the Wild South office in Wren, Alabama at 9:30 a.m. to explore some of the coolest places in the Bankhead National Forest.
Since 2014 is the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, our Wild Wednesdays this year will focus on the marvels and meaning of “Wilderness” and will include forays into our own spectacular Sipsey Wilderness!
Watch this site for a soon-to-be-posted schedule of hikes.
Group size for all hikes is limited and advance sign-up is required. Click Contact us to get on the Wild South e-mail list or to ask questions.
We will be visiting Lewis Smith Lake and staying near Bankhead beginning the week of June 28th. I think that Wednesday will be the first Wednesday in July. How do we sign up for the Wild Wednesday hikes – I have two teenage daughters – and are there also some other areas that we could take the girls’ grandmother to enjoy the wildness. She would need relatively flat ground and short hikes, but she does enjoy the outdoors. (I would be grateful if you could just point me in the right direction for information on things we can do in Bankhead with her)
Angela, thank you for your interest in our Wild Wednesday hikes! Please e-mail us via the “contact us” link just above the last picture on this page to get on our e-mail list. You will then receive information about the hikes and the sign-up option for each one. We have lots of grandparents on our Wild Wednesday hikes. I can also tell you about other good places to explore that we may not get to on our Wild Wednesday hikes.
