February 2025 Trail Days, January Photos
Volunteer event schedule for February is:
■ WEEKDAYS on the Noli, on Unaka Mountain, or out in the communities of Mitchell, Yancey, and Unicoi Counties.
■ THURSDAY & SATURDAY trail projects weekly in Linville Gorge.
National Forests need your help this year, recovering trails and cleaning up rivers. Right now Wild South is coordinating efforts in Linville Gorge and Unaka Mountain. Pretty soon that will expand to trails in Harper Creek and Lost Cove, and to river cleanups along the Nolichucky River and Wilson Creek.
On Feb 18 & 25 (both Tuesdays), come help assess hurricane damage on the trails in Unaka Mountain Wilderness.
February trail days in Linville Gorge are likely to be on Leadmine, although other fun projects are calling…
If you’d like to join us for volunteer events, the best way to do that is to let us know what days you are available.

“LEADMINE” TRAIL RECOVERY – January weather was challenging. After a few false starts, we began recovering the lower Linville Gorge Trail to provide access to the popular Daffodil Flats. Many fallen trees blocked the trail. In some places, trees ripped up by their roots had taken a chunk of the mountain with them. Along the river there was flood debris choking the trail, and in some places no trail left at all.

Wild South’s Community Conservation Corps is a network of Southern National Forest communities working together to care for the wild places they love!
