November & December 2025 Trail Days

Wild South volunteers are out on the trail or on the water several times a week if weather allows. We’ll slow down for Thanksgiving, but otherwise continue the routine into December.

PINE GAP –  Old NC 105 was in such bad shape that we couldn’t access our project sites on the west side of Linville Gorge.  But we took the opportunity to clear some show-stopping trees on Pine Gap.

 

LEADMINE – We’ve started the process of packing hurricane flood debris up out of Linville Gorge.  Hauling heavy trash out of the backcountry is a Wild South specialty.  These tires were pretty big, but there’s even bigger stuff in there.  We also scouted future projects and rigged a retaining wall to support a collapsed section of trail.

 

Linville Gorge Trail @ Devil’s Hole – Crossing the river just after sunrise, we spent a long day cutting trees off the LGT.  Hurricane Helene made a mess in there, but it may be possible to re-open this section in the next month or two.

 

Beauty Spot – Volunteers cleaned up trash at the popular Beauty Spot and were rewarded with a gorgeous sunset.

 

Pinch-In – The big project to reroute sections of Pinch-In Trail has begun.  That’ll help deal with erosion issues, and also make it possible to connect Pinch-In to Rock Jock for a great loop hike.
